Everyday Heresies

I was reading this post the other day on one of the blogs on my blog roll... it got me thinking.

What are the everyday heresies of the church in America today?

There are a few that immediately come to mind for me, both that I've seen repeatedly and am guilty of myself. In no particular order:

- Materialism
- Judging others (i.e. with a stricter standard than we judge ourselves)
- Ignoring the marginalized (not loving the "unlovable")
- Expecting unbelievers to act like believers and getting outraged when they don't

What about you? What are some everyday things that you do or have seen in the American church that are contrary to the teachings of our Lord? To quote a "classic" American film:

"Went a little heavy on the pine tree perfume there, kid." "Sir, it's a taxicab air freshener." "Great. You've pinpointed it. Step two is washing it off."

Step one is recognizing the problem. The much harder part is, "How do we correct it?" It's easy to point fingers, but taking steps to change problems is something else altogether.
